    Cara Natalie,

    Benvenuti a Italia!!!!

We are so excited for you to be in Rome. We know you will be in touch with or cousins cugini Michele and Stella Cicioni if you haven’t already. They are near the airport in Fiumicino but so are lots of others in Rome and north. oh and south too. Just looked at your classes and can’t believe your choices….great. You will not regret one moment there except that you will have to leave.
Dick and I love it and I was in tears last night watching Lydia’s Italy cooking show and missing it all so much for it is so much a part of who I am…watching her cook fish from your sea, artichokes, and capers and fennel all of which are very Roman. Every part of the culture, the architecture, design, food and how it is acquired from the land and sea, the land itself, our relatives, living and deceased, etc. You will see for yourself. At one time I really wanted to retire there til our last trip which was without my Mom and Dad there, and with our families it was different and harder and I did not know enough Italian though had learned lots in 4 trips in order to communicate with our relatives who knew no English. So glad you are taking the language and being immersed in it at the same time…try not to speak English and you will force yourself to learn.
My favorite spot is where your Dad’s Granny is from in Palinuro which is south of Naples and 2 hrs south of Salerno right on the Tyrennian Sea same as Rome is. and our family there too is lovely and extremely hard working.
I know you will travel to Florence if you have any chance and that you will love with the classes you are taking. It is amazing. Though Venice is considered to be romantic we won’t go back there as it is not all it seems to us. And Tuscany is just near Florence so if you get there you will have covered alot.
Let me know if you want any family contacts since I have most.love Rita e Dick, your cugini
